A political party is organised for a purpose larger than its own survival. That is the difference between a political party and an individual political party and a political machine. The individual and the political machine exist for their own sake. Their primary purpose is survival.
Because political parties are concerned about the next election, they work and encourage their members to work towards the realisation of the parties' manifestoes - those of them that are in government.
