Tanzania: Foreign Mindset, Our Achilles' Heel

Preparations are in earnest for the 50th independence anniversary, come December 9. It will be one of the biggest celebrations ever in Tanzania, one can expect. We will be remembering how our fathers and mothers gallantly struggled to unchain our land from the iron grips of the enslaving colonial masters.

We have millions of achievements to sing about and no one, according to me, has so far put it better, than President Jakaya Kikwete.Recently, while in Malaysia, he said: "When the British left us we had only 12 graduates, now we have 12 million children in primary school and close to two million in higher education... changes are taking place."
