Kenya: UBA to Focus On Strategic Partnerships

United Bank of Africa Kenya says it is pursuing strategic partnerships with companies in key sectors rather than expanding its operations through branch openings. The bank, currently with three branches in Kenya, is seeking partners in the areas of energy, telecommunications and infrastructure.

Yesterday the bank met a number of chief executives from companies in oil marketing and manufacturing. "Ours is a top of the pyramid model rather than a bottom of the pyramid," said managing director Muyiwa Akinyemi. UBA, one of west African biggest banks, kicked off operations in Kenya in 2008 as UBA Kenya Bank Ltd.
