The astonishing attack on dancehall sensation Winky D by Thomas Mapfumo that "only Winky D's friends and relatives will buy that kind of music and he must be original to survive in music", is unfortunate as history records that the popular entertainment culture has enjoyed commercial success since the 1960s.
For a start, it is very wrong to compare Winky D's music to that of Mapfumo and Oliver Mtukudzi as the artists sing different genres. It is like comparing British rock band the Beatles and another British boy act Musical Youth.
