Tanzania: Workers' Unions Sceptical Over Salary Increase Move

Dar es Salaam — Workers' unions yesterday expressed scepticism over whether the government would increase salaries to a satisfactory amount despite the increase in the Budget.The doubt is based on the fact that the budget increase was not only meant to improve remunerations, but also for other matters as well.

The government stated in Parliament on Monday that it will release Sh3.2 trillion for civil servants, being an increase of Sh938 billion (equivalent to 40.2 per cent) compared to the previous Budget.The money would cater for improved salaries, pay arrears, promotion of public servants as well as recruiting new employees.
