Kenya: Mandera's Sole Dentist Dies in Road Accident

Mandera County dentist Abdi Noor has died in a road accident. Noor, the only dentist in the sprawling county, died after a car crash at Tula on the Nairobi-Garissa Road. Noor was travelling with his wife from Nairobi to Mandera when the vehicle they were in colluded with a trailer. Noor and the driver died on the spot while his widow suffered fractures on both legs and sustained serious chest injuries. She was treated at the Garissa provincial general hospital and later flown to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

A loader in the trailer, Antony Kimani, said the trailer driver tried to avoid the doctor's vehicle which was being driven on the wrong side of the road. He said that despite prolonged and loud hooting, the driver did not change lanes or even respond. The vehicle eventually rammed onto the side of the trailer.
