The city administration of Hawassa announced on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, that it is going to introduce Bishoftu buses to provide public transportation service for its residents. The commencement of the service will mark the first public city bus transportation system in the Southern Region.
The Metal and Engineering Corporation (MetEC) has signed an agreement with the city to assemble and supply the eight buses by importing spare parts from China. The buses are being assembled by Bishoftu Automotive and Locomotive Industry (BALI), a subsidiary of MetEC.
