Kenya: Climate Key Factor in Economy - Uhuru

KENYA has set up a carbon unit at Treasury to address climate changes as a means of preserving its weather sensitive sectors, Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

While opening the Rockefeller Foundation new headquarters for Africa in Nairobi yesterday, Uhuru noted that a large portion of Kenya's economic activities are highly dependant on the climate hence the ongoing change in climate largely affects the country. "The Kenyan economy is heavily reliant on climate sensitive sectors such as agriculture and tourism and consequently the effects of climate change are already being experienced in Kenya," noted Uhuru.
