Kenya: Court Orders Telkom Kenya to Pay Its Former GTI Staff

Nairobi — Telkom Kenya Limited will have to pay millions of shillings to its former employees at the defunct Gilgil Telecoms Industries Limited following an award by the High Court in Nakuru. Justice Luka Kimaru ruled that former GTI employees were entitled to arrears as per the improved terms negotiated on their behalf by the Communication Workers Union of Kenya.

The workers who were laid off on June 15, 2006 accused Telkom and GTI of failing to increase their house allowances by 60 per cent of their basic salaries which was granted in 2001.
