Freetown — Nearly three weeks after the acquittal and discharge of suspended Commissioner -General of the National Revenue Authority, Alieu Sesay and four co-accused, the public is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that they could be freed on all fifty-seven count charges proffered against them. I must confess, like all well meaning Sierra Leoneans I have been caught up in the unprecedented outpouring of public revulsion at the judgement. I would have bet my life if anybody had told me Sesay and co-accused will walk free on all the charges.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner has an uphill task at the moment to convince the public that the battle against corruption is not lost. So far I think public opinion is on his side but I do not think he has the luxury of time. A lot of people are pinning their hopes on the outcome of the much anticipated appeal.
