Sierra Leone: Kadie Sesay's Death Exposes Lapses in Free Health Care

Freetown — A special committee set-up by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Madam Zainab Hawa Bangura to examine the circumstances leading to the death of one Kadie Sesay at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) few months ago has exposed weaknesses and failures in President Ernest Bai Koroma's flagship free health care programme for lactating mothers, pregnant women and children under five introduced over a year ago.

The eleven-man committee headed by Dr. Akim Gibril, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, expressed deep regret at discovering that poor management and blatant disregard for human life by some health personnel at the PCMH were among reasons responsible for the death of Sesay.
