An environmental group known as the Evergreen Habitat Organization (EHO) said Nigerian government was poorly represented at a recent Climate Investment Fund meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Group representative, Mr. Chris Anaekwe, who is also President and Founder of the organization has decry the level of zero participation of Nigerian government officials at such global issues that demand Nigeria's attention as the giant of Africa.
According to him, the level of environmental degradation such as drought and desertification, oil spillage and other climate change challenges prone to this country is alarming, with "Nigerian being one of the major donor countries to Climate Trust Fund and Climate technology Fund, two major funding mechanism of the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) of Climate resilience and mitigation strategies.
As a frontrunner contributor to such funds, Nigeria should not absent herself from such environmental global concern meetings," he said.
He however called on all Nigerians to plant more trees and stop felling of trees indiscriminately and avoid dumping of refuse in the drainage system to avoid flooding.
