Kenya: IEB Told to Review List of Clubs Listed for Polls

6 August 2011

The independent Electoral Board (IEB) was yesterday asked to review the list of 1558 clubs they released on Thursday with Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Malindi branch secretary Dickson Angore, claiming it is full of errors. "We are worried the 40 clubs listed earlier are being left out at the expense of non genuine ones," said Angore. "We would like the IEB to look into the case of Malindi seriously as we invite them to the ground and get the real clubs that exist." "Somebody has helped delete the clubs that appeared in the preliminary list and replaced them with tournament and estate teams that do not qualify to vote as per the IEB code," said an aspirant for the national vice chairmanship Sammy Sholei.

Sholei said some teams were left out while others which seem to favour a particular candidate have been brought in. "We are not sure how many of such deletions and additions have happened in the general vetting of clubs thus coming up with the new list which is double the first one," observed Sholei. "I wish all aspirants would have been involved in the process. We do not have trust in the new list as I have a feeling it has widely been manipulated. Why don't we be honest and let Kenyans decide the best candidates." "Why are we so greedy, why? Why must it be so and so that must run soccer in Kenya?" he wondered, adding: "Let us all shelve friendship in this process and give the country what it deserves. If you are not the chosen one please accept it."
