Bauchi — Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, has assented to the law passed by the state House of Assembly for the creation of Sayawa chiefdom.
Yuguda also assented to the law for the creation of more districts in Bauchi Emirate, saying that the move was to fulfill the electioneering promises made to the people of the state.
He lamented that many innocent lives had been lost while property worth billions of naira destroyed as a result of the agitation for the creation of the Seyawa Chiefdom and more districts.
The governor expressed optimism that with the creation of the Seyawa Chiefdom, the crises that had dodged the area would soon end and called on the people of the area to reciprocate government's gesture.
Yuguda said: "It is hoped that there will be lasting peace in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro. We have done our best and we may not have 100 per cent success but we are glad that our people have accepted our efforts 80 or 90 per cent."
He disclosed that the temporary headquarters would now be situated at Bogoro and not Marte Giji as recommended by the House initially.
He explained that adjustment was because Marte Giji lacked the infrastructure for the new chiefdom's headquarters.
He advised those who are not satisfied with the decision of the government to seek legal redress rather than resort to taking the law in their hands and violence.
Yuguda warned that the administration would not tolerate mischief makers and perpetrators of violence, saying that the security agencies would unravel their identities and bring them to book.
Reacting, the Secretary of Seyawa Elders Council, Zhadi Bukar, said they were not surprised that the governor accented the law despite protest from the Seyawa people.
In a telephone interview, Bukar said they would not accept anything short of making Tafawa Balewa the headquarters of the Seyawa chiefdom.
He said: "We are not surprise. We told the governor that he has made the greatest mistake of his time. He blamed the whole thing on the committee; he asked us to write an appeal, which we did and now he is not far from the same
mistake. We are not party to it; he did not us invite us for the signing into law of the chiefdom."
