Nigeria: Tribunal Rejects PDP's Application to Subpoena U.S. Embassy in Oyo

Ibadan — Oyo State Governorship Elections Tribunal sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, yesterday turned down the application by the state chapter of the Peoples Democrati Party (PDP) that some officials of the United States of America's Embassy be subpoenaed to give evidence in its petition alleging dual citizenship against Governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi.

The Oyo PDP in its petition before the tribunal had claimed that Ajimobi had dual citizenship as a Nigerian by birth and as an American. The PDP maintained that on this allegation, Senator Ajimobi was not qualified to contest the April governorship election in the state.
