Last week I wrote on 'Welcoming our Health Commissioners on Board' with the aim of raising some critical issues of leadership in the health sector as well as recommended simple actions that they could institute to improve the quality of care. I am glad sizable number of them have responded positively to the write as well as pledged to implement if not all, but some of the simple solutions mentioned in the write. At a later date, I will revisit this issue. Just like I said in many fora and conferences within and outside Nigeria, we often neglect viewing our search light to what they are doing and what role they could play but concentrate our energy talking about Health Ministers and national policies which if not implemented across the states, the relevance of the policies are very negligent.

Today my discourse is also about leadership in the health facilities and will e making reference to an article title 'Physician-leaders and hospital performance: Is there an association?' published by Social Science & Medicine 73 (2011) 535e539 written by Amanda H. Goodall et al. The article is available online since 6th July 2011
