Liberia: Liberty Party Advances Preventive Healthcare Reforms

The opposition Liberty Party(LP) of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine has vowed to confront the deadly AIDS virus as part of several healthcare reforms advanced in its platform. The LP is seeking to unseat incumbent President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in the ensuing presidential legislative elections. According to the LP, it would tackle the deadly HIV/AIDS disease with resources and education for the public.

According to the CIA Fact book on HIV/AIDS prevalence in Liberia, an estimated 37,000 people are living with the virus. The figure represents statistics released in 2009. At least 1.7% of this figure (37,000) is adults between the ages of 15-49.
