Kenyan farmers' earnings from stevia -- a natural sweetener used as an alternative to sugar -- are set to increase following a decision by the European Union to embrace it as a food ingredient.
The European Union's Standing Committee on Food Chain and Animal Health has approved the use of stevia, opening up the 500-million people market to exports from countries such as Kenya.
