The expanding city will soon have an alternative source of water, after the government yesterday commissioned a masterplan to identify and develop new water resources.
The study, funded by the French Development Agency and World Bank, seeks to identify new water resources for satellite towns within a radius of 70km of the capital city to improve their future water security. The draft feasibility study, which was discussed by stakeholders at a Nairobi hotel yesterday, found that the city currently has more than 3 million inhabitants and an estimated daytime population of around 5 to 6 million.
