Nigeria: Music Coalition Declares Today "No Music Day"

Today, September 1, 2011has been declared "No Music Day" throughout Nigeria by the Nigerian Music Coalition. The body which is an assemblage of a number of national associations in the music industry, in a statement, that today be dedicated to drawing national attention to the widespread infringement of the rights of composers, song writers, performers, music publishers and other stakeholders in the music industry in Nigeria.

The coalition consequently requested all broadcasting stations in the country to devote significant periods of their broadcast schedules today to interviews, debates, comments, discussions, and other programs related to the rights of artistes and creative people, as a mark of solidarity with the Nigerian creative community. The statement also urged all national newspapers and magazines to do special features and editorials on the subject.
