Zimbabwe: Prisoners Gobble U.S. $1,7 Million Monthly

Bulawayo — GOVERNMENT is spending US$1,7 million per month feeding prisoners due to overpopulation. Prison authorities say this is partly as a result of suspects with petty cases being remanded in custody.

There are 14 000 inmates in 68 prisons countrywide and officials say the majority of them are on remand.
