A lot of praise has been piled on Uganda's upcoming runner Jacob Araptany in recent weeks. Here, he is a crowd favourite. His antics enroute to winning one of the three World Championships steeplechase qualifying races on Monday endeared him to the passionate spectators. But his Monday heroics will count for very little when he lines up for the biggest race of his career so far at the magnificent Daegu stadium today.
Together with countryman Benjamin Kiplagat, who also won his qualifying race in commanding fashion, the Ugandan representatives have the toughest call of their careers yet. With an array of big names on show, Kiplagat and Araptany are considered outsiders for any podium finish.
