Kenya: Civil Society Rejects New Ethics Commission

CIVIL Society and Busia county residents yesterday rejected the newly formed Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and vowed to move to court to challenge its legitimacy.

Led by Okiya Omtatah, the group said the commission is a stooge of politicians and is the weakest anti-corruption body in Africa. They said the body cannot dismantle the infrastructure of corruption. "It is worse than the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission which it is replacing and it can therefore not justify our spending public resources on it," he said.
