Sierra Leone: Councils May Wreck Education, Health - FCC Indicted Again

Freetown — The payment of both school fees and health service subsidies by the government through the accounts of the various local councils can ruin both the free primary education and the newly-instituted free healthcare initiative for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under five.

According to the Zonal Chairman of the Head Teachers' Council in the Western Area, Patrick C. Kamanda, most of the schools in the zone did not receive subsidy from the Freetown City Council throughout the 2010/2011 academic year.
