Liberia: Journalists Urged to Promote, Sustain Peace

2 September 2011

The Country Representative of the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) says the Liberian media has a pivotal role to play in the sustenance of peace and democracy during this crucial time in the country's history. According to Stevenson Seidi, the media plays an important role in the growth and stability of any nation, and as such, journalists must be cognizant of what they broadcast or publish for public consumption. He made these comments Thursday at the start of a three-day training on conflict sensitive reporting for media practitioners.

The training is intended to help strengthen the capacities of Liberian journalists during the 2011 presidential and legislative elections.
