Nigeria: Minimum Wage - Plateau NLC Suspends Strike

Jos — The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Plateau state chapter, has suspended the six day old strike it embarked upon to demand the implementation of the new national minimum wage in the state.

Chairman of the Plateau NLC, Jibrin Kamgar Bancir, at a press conference in Jos, said the leadership of the NLC met with the state government officials and resolved some of the issues leading to the strike with the state government accepting to comply with the new national Minimum Wage Act 2011.

He said negotiation on the implementation has been agreed upon to commence immediately and to be concluded not later than the 15th of this month.

The NLC chairman said part of the agreement is that workers shall not be victimised for participating in the strike action.
