Gambia: Assembly Adopts Framework Agreement On Sub-Regional Cooperation

Lawmakers Tuesday unanimously considered and adopted the Framework Agreement and Agreement on Technical and Finance Cooperation between the Republics of Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Senegal; and the kingdom of Norway on the other hand, on the intended Norwegian support to the Establishment of the Outer on Limits of the Continental Shelf beyond 200 Nautical Miles.

The motion was tabled before deputies by the vice president and minister of Women's Affairs, Her Excellency Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy during the 3rd Legislative Session of the National Assembly. VP Njie-Saidy reminded the National Assembly members that The Gambia is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which she said was ratified in 1984. The vice president stressed that whereas land boundaries are generally well defined and known, maritime boundaries are less, thus making the latter a potential source of conflict.
