The Anglican church yesterday regretted the lack of disaster preparedness despite rise in disasters. Addressing the press at the All Saints Cathedral at the conclusion of the Provincial Synod, Archbishop Eliud Wabukala noted that the country has seen an increase in calamities. He urged the government to do something to lessen the impact disasters have on people's lives. "The tragedies and resultant injuries and deaths that Kenya has experienced in the recent past have left a trail of grief and devastation," he said.
He called upon the government to implement disaster preparedness policies. He pointed to the Sinai fire disaster, the increasing cases of road carnage, the Busia tanker fire, collapsing buildings, and the consumption of lethal brews as examples of disasters experienced in the country in the last month. "These disasters tell us to re-examine ourselves. We must start doing things differently. If people do not live according to the scripture, things will always go wrong. We must change our ways."
