Nigeria: Borno to Create Jobs Through Revival of Dormant Industries

5 October 2011

Maiduguri — Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has said that his administration would refurbish all state owned industries in order to create jobs for the people. The governor, who noted that such would reduce crime and improve the revenue base of the state, said it is unacceptable to rely on Federal Government allocations.

The governor, while touring some industries, including the Borno Shoe Factory and Borno Plastic Company (BOPLAS), said his administration has empowered over 5,000 youths through the purchase of 5,000 tricycles and 100 buses. He lamented that poor electricity supply and neglect led to the closure of many industries in the state that were built in 70s and 80s. Shettima maintained that if youths are gainfully employed, they will not be frustrated, and constituted authorities would be respected.
