MEMBERS of Parliament asserted the independence of the legislature this week in line with the principle of separation of powers by defying a directive by the executive to halt public hearings during the current session of Parliament.
Lawmakers from the Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs met on Monday and resolved to continue with the public hearings starting on October 17, despite the existence of the government order.
