Gambia: Sub-Regional HFPI Complex Commissioned

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with partners such as WHO and Sightsavers International, Thursday officially commissioned the new complex of the sub-regional Health For Peace Initiative (HFPI) project, at Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre (SZRECC) in Kanifing.

The inauguration of this new complex was part of celebrations marking World Sight Day. The HFPI health initiative was first incepted in The Gambia following a Banjul Declaration in 2001, which was unanimously signed by the health ministers of The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Guinea, with The Gambia nominated to coordinate the initiative.
