Uganda: Kalangala Deputy RDC Survives Lynching Over Fish

17 October 2011

Tempers flared at Kabasese Landing Site in Bukakata Sub-county in Masaka District as a gang of angry fishermen armed with clubs barred the deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kalangala, Mr Dominic Tebasiima, from impounding their fish.

At least 50 fishermen staged a roadblock and stopped Mr Tebasiima's vehicle from leaving the landing site at 10:30am on Friday. Mr Tebasiime accompanied by Maj. The fishermen held Mr Tebasiima hostage for 20 minutes but he was rescued by the police.
