Tanzania: Large-Scale Miners Likened to Plunderers of African Wealth

Multinational companies investing in mining in Africa can be likened to plunderers of the continent's wealth during colonialism. This is because mining contracts are lopsided and give them a lot of benefits over Africans whose resources are exploited, Tabora Catholic Archbishop Paul Ruzoka said."What do we have to take home from the massive and widespread exploitation of natural resources from the Tanzanian soil?" he asked.

The archbishop who chairs the Interfaith Standing Committee on Economic Justice and Integrity was speaking during the Alternative Mining Indaba, which started here yesterday. The meeting has been organised by civil society organisations (CSOs).The indaba is taking place alongside the international Tanzania Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (TMECE).
