Kenya: Pnu Alliance Building Its Parties, Says Kalonzo

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday said parties under the PNU alliance are being strengthened to form a strong force that will win the presidency after Kibaki retires in 2012. Kalonzo said PNU, ODM-K and Kanu were being strengthened to work out a winning formula to form the next government. He said the alliance will invite other smaller parties and produce a single candidate who will fly the party's flag. "The PNU alliance is a strong force that will form the next government. Our political competitors are praying that we break up but nothing of the sort will happen," he said.

The VP said his move to join Kibaki and form a partial government after the disputed 2007 election was a wise move that quelled the post-election violence and restored peace in the country. "It is a known fact that when our party ODM-K joined hands with Kibaki following the disputed elections, peace was restored in this country. That was a selfless move otherwise this country would have degenerated into a vicious long-term war. Now who is better placed to become the next president other than the man you are looking at?" Kalonzo posed.
