Is development only seen when it appears in mortar and brick? It all gets to a level when it seems cosmetic most especially if arts and culture have to be sacrificed for the next four-floor 'skyscraper'.

Let's stick to the sport here. The unending tale to sports venues being given away to all kinds of investors leaves a more distasteful taste with every other story. The latest encroachment on Hole No. 12 at Uganda Golf Club (UGC) is nothing new as the par-72 Kitante course has wilted from where Centenary Park is today to its current size in the last century. The story is similar for Kyadondo and Kampala rugby grounds, golf clubs in Arua, Mbale and Soroti, a stadium in Lira named after Olympic legend John Akii-Bua, Nakivubo, Namboole and many others.
