Liberia: UN Council Backs Efforts to Ease State Vote Tensions

The UN Security Council on Wednesday threw its weight behind international efforts to keep Liberia's landmark presidential election on track after the opposition candidate threatened to withdraw.

The council issued a statement calling on all sides "to remain committed to the legitimate political process, exercise maximum restraint and work together to build confidence in the electoral system."
