Liberia: China Pledges Continued Support to Liberian Media

28 October 2011

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China (PRC) accredited to Liberia, ZHAO Jianhua, has pledged his country's continued support to the media in Liberia. He made the pledge yesterday at a program commemorating the 80th anniversary of his country's official news agency, Xinhua News Agency, held at a local hotel located at Paynesville City, outside Monrovia. Xinhua News Agency was founded in Ruijin in the Chinese southern Jiangxi Province on November 7, 1931, and presently operates a 24-hour news gathering network; publishing texts, pictures and videos in eight languages, having 162 overseas bureaus worldwide.

Addressing the audience at the ceremony, the Chinese envoy said: "I want to reiterate that the Chinese government will continue to support exchanges and cooperation between our two countries' media institutions."
