Liberia: House Warns Incoming Lawmakers Against "Treasonable Statement"

The House of Representatives has condemned statement attributed by District #8 Representative, Acarous Gray that his party is prepared to make 'Liberia bitter.' The House is also warning incoming Lawmakers to refrain from statement that are treasonable.

Speaking to capitol Building Reporters, the Director of Press, Isaac Redd said, "The House of representatives categorically condemned statements coming from incoming lawmakers that are treasonable and inimical to the peace of the country."

He added that any incoming lawmaker who want to maintain the dignity and sanity of the House of Representatives should refrain from making statements that have the propensity to derail the peace the country currently enjoys. He furthered that the House will not give credence to lawmakers who want to make statements that will damage the peace of Liberia.

Montserrado County District # 8 Representative-Elect and Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General, Acarous Moses Gray Wednesday, October 26, 2011 disclosed that if the demand of the CDC is not met by replacing the Board of Commissioners at the National Election Commission (NEC), and the Run-off election is held, the Unity Party (UP) partisans will be governed by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the CDC partisans will be governed by Cllr. Winston A.Tubman.

The CDC on Thursday, October 27, 2011 called on the Chairman of the NEC to resign his post amidst the recent errors in communication addressed to the CDC placing them as the highest in the first round of the October 11, 2011 presidential Election. The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information Thursday, October 27, 2011 called on the Standard Bearer of the CDC, Cllr. Winston A.Tubman to put a halt to reckless statements coming out of the party.

Already the statement by Hon. Gray has sparked mix- reactions in the Liberia society. Some Liberians have described the honorable man's statement as "anti-peace.

In a related development, the House of Representatives has disclosed that it has already secure additional nine offices to host the incoming lawmakers. The House spokesman said all nine new representatives will be host in the Capitol Building and that some staffers of the House will be relocated to the University of Liberia Main Campus on Capitol Hill.
