Kenya: Simbauti Land Sale Was Illegal, Says Onyonka

28 October 2011

Foreign Affairs assistant minister Richard Onyonka has termed the sale of the controversial Simbauti farm,in Borabu district, Nyamira County as immoral and illegal. Onyonka has joined former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara in supporting hundreds of farmers who continue camping in protest on the farm.

He accused the land owners, majority of whom are leaders, of greed for having failed to block the sale of the land and instead benefited from it. "The sale of Simbauti farm, which did not start today, illegally and fraudulently to the elite and wealth people in Kisii is scandalous," he said "This is simply something which was done and perpetuated because of greed and disregard of the feelings of the poor and this is a historical injustice and impunity that must be addressed," Onyonka said.
