Kenya: No Warrants Yet, but ICC Gag Still Stands

The International Criminal Court yesterday denied issuing sealed arrest warrants for top post-election violence suspects as it emerged that serious personal reprimand for the suspects might have been issued. ICC spokesman Fadi Abdalla said besides a reminder for all suspects to observe conditions imposed on them earlier in the year, no special reprimand was issued to deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto.

The two who are also leading presidential aspirants have remained mum on ICC issues ever since they returned from the confirmation of charges hearing at The Hague. This is a clean break from the past when they took every opportunity to publicly defend themselves from the ICC prosecution charges and rally around supporters to blame fellow politicians for fixing them at the court. "To the best of my knowledge, there were no warrants of arrest issued, whether under seal or public, against the two mentioned suspects (Mr Ruto and Mr Kenyatta).
