Kenya: State to Pay Sh150 Million for Third Party Injury Claims

The government has been ordered by the courts to pay a total of Sh150 million in respect of third party injury claims in the last three years as a result of accidents involving government vehicles. Attorney General Githu Muigai yesterday told Parliament that Sh50 million has already been paid out while payment of Sh100 million is pending.

A third party claim are lodged by a person, or the dependents of a person, who received a bodily injury or who died as a result of a motor vehicle accident. The AG told Parliament that in 2009, claims amounting to Sh13.9 million were paid out while a further Sh5.8 is pending.
