Kenya: Forgery Suspects Released On Sh2 Million Bail

Two men facing 10 counts of fraud and forgery were yesterday released on bail by a Kiambu court. William Ogutu and Willy Chepkwony were charged with intent to deceive by forging a title deed issued to Jena Agencies by the Commissioner of Lands. The two are also charged that between August 18, 2009, and May 27, 2010, in Nairobi obtained Sh45 million from Paul Nyerere, Philomena Keltah and Joseph Gachanga the officials of Ubora cooperative society limited by falsely pretending they were in a position to for the sale of land to Ubora Cooperative Society.

The third count read that on September 2 at Arhdi House in Nairobi they forged a letter of consent to the chief land registrar. The two denied all the charges before Kiambu resident magistrate Mary Ochieng and were released on a cash bail of Sh2 million or a surety bond of Sh3 million pending the hearing of the case on 11 January 2012.
