Kenya: KQ Passenger Traffic Grows By 18 Per Cent

28 October 2011

KENYA Airways passenger numbers for the second quarter of the current financial year rose by 18 per cent to hit 1,004,476 backed by the airline's ongoing route expansion. KQ which launched its 56th route to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia mid this month, also announced an increase in cargo volumes by 13.5 per cent to 16,021 tonnes.

The performance of the cargo business, the airline said, was as a result of improved business environment and aggressive marketing. "The company put into the market place capacity totalling 3,639m seat kilometres which was 7.3% better than last year's level as a result of incremental destinations launched in the second half of 2010 to Rome (Italy), Nampula (Mozambique) and Malindi (Kenya) while N'Djamena (Chad) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) were launched in the first half of 2011," said a statement from the firm.
