Former Cabinet minister Mutua Katuku has declared his interest for Machakos county governor seat. Katuku's entry bring to 11 those eyeing to capture the seat. Assistant minister for Youth Affairs Wavinya Ndeti has already launched her campaigns for the seat. The other hopefuls are Dr Kioko wa Luka, former Knut national treasurer Peter Mutulu, senior deputy secretary at the state law office Onesmus Mutua, former intelligence director William Kivuvani and Machakos lawyer Wambua Kilonzo.
Others are former Kenya bureau of standards boss Dr Kioko Mang'eli, government spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua and former county council chairman Stanley Mang'eli and former central bank deputy governor Dr Nzioki Kibua. Katuku told voters to thoroughly vet aspirants for elective positions claiming some of them are using fake academic papers.
