National football elections vice chairmanship candidate Sammy Sholei has promised to push for an 18-team Kenya Premier League if his team is elected in tomorrow's elections. "If elected, we shall push to have the standard 18 teams to participate in the league next season. This means Bandari and Congo United will escape the axe," Sholei told the Star. "We shall promote two teams from the Nationwide this year and relegate four teams next year to widen the opportunities for teams playing in the inter-mediate leagues to qualify for the Kenyan Premier League," added Sholei.
He said if elected his team will push for an inter county league with one team each from 47 counties to be split into three zones. One team will be promoted from each zone and one from the Nationwidehe proposed. "This is one way of ensuring counties support their teams like in England," added the former international midfielder. "It is embarrassing to have Mombasa teams qualifying for the premier League and participate for one year then get relegated the following year.
