As we approach the birth of the seven billionth human being, almost predictably the debate on the global population is marked by racism, misinformation and avoidance of the real issues that trouble our planet. When the focus is merely on figures it is easy to be alarmed, misled and distracted.
Yet, space is hardly a problem, for Sudan alone could absorb the seven billion if it had the same population density and infrastructure as New York City.
