Kenya: Flush Out Al Shabaab Militia in Mwingi - Kalonzo

1 November 2011

Residents of Mwingi South have been urged to prevent any attempts by al-Shabaab militants to use Mwingi as a gateway into the country. Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said some illegal immigrants from Somalia have been using Mwingi as an entry point. "If you spot some suspicious looking characters, you must immediately report them to the authorities," said Kalonzo during a tour of Ikuuni on Saturday.

He said although the government security operatives were on full alert, it was prudent for the people of Mwingi to be extra vigilant. Kalonzo also sought to reassert that Kenya was not at war with Somalia following the action by the Kenya Army saying the military was in pursuit of terrorists who interfered with its sovereignty. "It's not a fight against any tribe but against terrorists who were against our country," said Kalonzo.
