Kenya: Narok Students Call for Upgrade of University

Narok University College student leaders have called on the government to upgrade Narok University College into a fully-fledged university.

Led by Kasaine Partoip, they said that once the institution is upgraded, it will serve the Maasai community and help address their problems through research.

Speaking in Duka Moja in Narok North district, during a fundraiser in which Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi attended, Kasaine said the institution is the only university in Maasai land.

He said for local students to compete with the rest of the world, the institution needs to be upgraded.

"The institution is located at the heart of Maasai Mara game reserve. This would enable students to get quality training and improve on research in new fields," said Kasaine.

The student leader said that the programmes like tourism,agro-foresty should provide an excellent quiet atmosphere for intellectuals activity and recreation in the growing South Rift Tourist circuit.

"Narok University College should provide an opportunity for environmental conservation and researches to participate in the

restoration and maintenance of the Mau forest and Maasai Mara game reserve." Said Kasaine.

He said the national development priorities like environmental and ecological sustainability, sustainable agriculture, food security and socio-economic development should be improved which targets the locals.
