SAFE Spaces have been promoted to the national Premier League after winning the 2011 Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) women's title. Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) fixtures secretary Joseph Amoko confirmed Safe Spaces will move up to the top tier, alongside Mombasa Sports Club.
Safe Spaces shut out Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 58-46 in the NBA finals Game Three at World Hope over the weekend. It was a great moment for the self sponsored side after missing on the opportunity last year. "I want to confirm to you that this time round we will not forfeit our rightful place in the Premier League.
Last year we were not prepared to move up," noted coach John Njuguna. Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) men and women teams have been relegated with Kenya Polytechnic University women's team also joining them in the lower division. With Safe Spaces and MSC moving up, the team joining the men's Premier League will be known after the Inter Provincial play-offs this weekend in Mombasa. "Because we have only 11 men's teams in the Premier League, we will relegate only one and promote two, to increase the total number to 12," said Amoko.
