South Africa: Prefix Strikes It Big in This Year's Bookmarks Awards

Prefix Technologies has made it through to the finals of this year's Bookmarks Awards in two categories. The firm's pMailer software has been nominated a finalist in the Applications and Tools category while company co-founder Josh Adler is a finalist in the Best Individual Contribution category.

The Bookmarks Awards are awarded annually by the Digital Media and Marketing Association (DMMA) to recognise the very best in the digital space, from editorial to advertising campaigns and branding.

The awards focus on measurability and performance. "Self-promotion, creativity and clever concepts mean nothing unless they achieve against a strategic objective," says the Association.

The judging process is now complete, with a series of workshops under way as the industry builds up to the Awards evening which will take place in Cape Town on 10 November.

The workshops offer members of the industry the opportunity to interact with the judging panel, find out how they evaluated the work and what their overall insights were.

This year's judging panel includes international as well as local digirati, and is chaired by Jack Kruger, head of digital at Old Mutual.

International judges are Antti Kupila, technical director at Sid Lee Amsterdam, an independent international creative agency, and Teresa Clarke, chair and CEO of iAfrica.com, a website that aims to change the way the world sees Africa.

Local judges include Jason Xenopolous (Native), Brent Shahim (Aqua Online), Nic Wittenberg (Ogilvy), Elan Lohmann (Avusa), Bridget Pringle (iAfrica.com), Alistair Fairweather (Mail & Guardian), Sophia Raw (Quirk), Rian van der Merwe (Kalahari.com), Adriaan Strydom (Clicks2Customers) and Andre Mitchell (DigiVox), Simon Dingle (5FM) and industry stalwart Renée Silversone.

"Recognition by your peers is always sweet," says Walter Penfold, managing director at Prefix Technologies. "We are thrilled that pMailer and Josh have made it through to the finals of what is a very rigorous adjudication process. We'll be holding thumbs for them both at the Awards night."
